Real Madrid has reached an agreement to acquire one of the most sought-after players in global football, securing the services of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund. The announcement from Dortmund on Wednesday confirmed the deal, revealing that the 19-year-old English midfielder will join Real Madrid for an upfront fee of €103 million, potentially rising to €134 million with additional bonuses. This transfer fee would make Bellingham the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history. A formal statement from the Spanish giants is expected to be released soon.
Bellingham began his football journey at his childhood club, Birmingham City, where he progressed through the youth system. When he made the switch to Borussia Dortmund at the age of 17 in 2020, Birmingham City retired his number 22 jersey as a mark of respect. During his debut season at Dortmund, Bellingham achieved significant milestones, becoming the youngest scorer in a competitive match for the club and the youngest English player to start in a Champions League fixture.
His outstanding performances earned him recognition, as he was included in the Bundesliga Team of the Season for both the 2020/21 and 2022/23 campaigns. In addition, Bellingham was awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Season accolade in 2022/23, a season in which Dortmund finished as runners-up to Bayern Munich. Internationally, he has already earned 24 caps for England, scoring for the Three Lions during the World Cup held in Qatar.
Bellingham’s exceptional talents have attracted the attention of top European clubs, with Liverpool considered frontrunners for his signature at one point. However, Real Madrid has emerged as the ultimate destination for the promising young talent, where he will join the prestigious group of stars at Los Blancos.
